Check out the many ways you can step up your involvement:
- Learn how a bill becomes a law:
- The legislative process is a series of steps that a legislative body takes to evaluate, amend, and vote on a proposed legislation. Watch this video to learn how a bill becomes a law in the Indiana Statehouse.
- Keep yourself informed:
- There are many legislative issues that directly or indirectly impact your life and the Indiana Muslim community at large. Get yourself familiar with these issues here.
- Know your legislators and contact them:
- To impact public policy and bring political changes, we strongly urge you to call or e-mail your legislators and let them know how you feel about a specific legislative issue. Find out your legislators here.
- Testify at the Indiana Statehouse:
- Testifying at committee hearings is an effective advocacy tool that ensures the voices of Muslim Hoosiers are heard. In the past legislative sessions, we arranged for Muslim community members to testify for an Anti-bullying bill and Hate Crimes Legislation. Contact us to learn about upcoming opportunities.
- Vote:
- Exercise your civic duty and go out and vote every election! When you vote, you take part in our democracy and make sure only qualified candidates represent you at the statehouse. You can check your voting status and location here.
- Talk to your friends and family about issues you care about:
- It takes a village to bring positive policy change! Help us raise awareness on different legislative issues and have discussions with family and friends on the importance of their involvement in advocacy and casting their votes.
